The Student Senate meets on Thursdays once and sometimes twice a month from 7:35 am to 7:55 am.  The Student Senate strives to offer help to the school, its students, as well as the community.  Members collaborate and find ways to help by offering their time and running donation drives to help those in need.

The math club is a fun, competitive activity in which students are invited to participate and learn new types of Math. Students will not only learn new materials but will also apply their prior knowledge from school to fun and challenging problems.  As well as the academic benefits, a math club is also a great way to meet new people and develop teamwork skills. Math is a subject full of creativity and opportunities that many students enjoy.

The Sunset Lakes Elementary Debate Team offers fourth and fifth grade students a dynamic opportunity to develop public speaking, critical thinking, and collaborative skills through structured debate. The team meets monthly after school and participates in two district-wide tournaments each year.

Xello is an online program that students are using to help them prepare for the future. The program offers a variety of activities to help students build self-knowledge, explore their career options, and create achievable plans. Students develop the 21st-century skills necessary to thrive in the workforce.

Third and fifth-grade students meet twice a week from 7:35 am – 7:55 am for our Xello University.

Sunset Lakes Elementary offers music clubs of strings, chorus, ukulele/ bells and guitar. Each club enables students to go beyond what they are learning in their music classroom to increase their ability to play and sing.  Each club performs various concerts throughout the year.

Our Doodlers' Club is open to students in grades 3-5. This club meets after school on Thursdays and engages in activities like painting, collaging, and mixed media. It's a space where young artists can unlock their artistic potential while making like-minded friends.

The WSLE News Crew is a vibrant student-led broadcast team that brings daily announcements to life at Sunset Lakes Elementary. Open to responsible and enthusiastic students, the program offers roles such as news anchors, camera operators, script writers, and tech assistants. The WSLE News Crew is more than just a morning broadcast—it’s a platform for student voice, leadership, and media literacy. Whether behind the scenes or in front of the camera, students gain real-world experience in communication and production while building school spirit.

At Sunset Lakes Elementary, the Green Thumbs Club, led by Mrs. Fernandez, provides students with hands-on gardening experiences while teaching them responsibility, teamwork, and environmental care. Members learn how to plant, water, and nurture flowers, herbs, and vegetables while developing pride in helping their school community grow.

Students also explore the natural world by learning about small creatures and insects, animal habitats, composting, and recycling, which helps them understand how all living things work together in nature.

This year, students proudly created our Friendship Garden, a special space that celebrates kindness, inclusion, and community. Together, students planned and planted the garden, creating a peaceful place where friendships can grow right alongside the flowers.

Patriot Pals is a reverse inclusion club that focuses on acceptance and diversity. It is comprised of select third, fourth and fifth-grade students who have unparalleled patience and love. These students spend time in our Special Program classes making a tremendous impact on the lives of students with varying disabilities. These students are mentors, but most importantly, friends.

Pre-K Patriot Pals:

Students work weekly with our Pre-k classes for students with disabilities. The students work to build inclusive relationships in a small group setting. They encourage social interaction and communication skills. They assist with Special Olympics training and competition.

Special Programs Patriot Pals: Students are paired with individual special program students and will participate in weekly inclusive friendship-building activities. These Patriot Pals will participate in activities for Young Elites Special Olympics.

Book Club is designed to get students in 3rd–5th grades excited about reading and to help them build confidence as they explore a variety of texts. In this supportive environment, students will discover different genres, practice effective reading strategies, and engage in thoughtful book-based discussions. The goal is to inspire a love of reading while helping students grow as independent, enthusiastic readers. The space is limited and requires parent permission.

Scribbles is a fun club for kindergarten and 1st grade students that builds fine motor skills through hands-on activities like playdough, cutting, tracing, and creative drawing. Meeting twice a month before school, Scribbles helps children strengthen pencil grip, scissor skills, and confidence; all while having fun with friends! Parent permission is required, and space is limited.
